What happens if my certification expired?

If your certification(s) have been expired for less than six (6) years, you can still renew them on your myICC account. If your certification(s) are expired for more than six (6) years, you can reinstate your certifications without the need to re-test. Expired certifications initially issued by the Code Council or the Code Council's legacy organizations (ICBO, BOCA, SBCCI, CABO) are also eligible for reinstatement.

My Certification Expired for Less than 6 Years

You can go to myICC to renew your certifications

My Certification Expired For More than 6 Years

For Code Council issued certifications expired for more than 6 years, you can simply log in to your myICC account to reinstate.  

CEUs Required to Reinstate Code Council-issued Certifications:
Number of Certifications Being Reinstated Total Number of CEUs required
(50% from ICC or PPN)
1 3.0 (1.5)
2 through 5 6.0 (3.0)
6 through 10 9.0 (4.5)
11 or more 12.0 (6.0)
Certified Building Official or Master Code Professional 12.0 (6.0)

Need the Paper Application? Please request one by sending an email to certrenewal@iccsafe.org.

NOTE: Paper Applications require an additional processing fee.

My Legacy Certification (Issued by ICBO, BOCA, SBCCI, CABO) Expired for More than 6 Years

 Expired certifications initially issued by the Code Council or the Code Council’s legacy organizations (ICBO, BOCA, SBCCI, CABO) are also eligible for reinstatement. For Legacy organization issued certifications expired for more than six (6) years, you can simply log in to your myICC account to reinstate.

Certification Renewal

Certifications are valid for three years and must be renewed on or before the expiration date (when they become inactive) to be current. If your certification has expired for less than six (6) years, you can log in to your myICC account to still renew your certifications.
