Q.  Are the Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector (64) and Zoning Inspector (75) exams and certifications being retired?
A.  No. The Code Council is not retiring the Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector or Zoning Inspector exams and related certifications.

Q.  I already have the Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector and Zoning Inspector certifications. Can I use those to get the new certifications?
A.  If you hold active Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector and Zoning Inspector certifications as of January 12, 2026, you will automatically receive the Code Enforcement Technician certification (CE-T) by January 16th, 2026.

If you only hold either the Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector or Zoning Inspector certification, you will have until March 1, 2026 to obtain the other certification by passing the exam. This option will be available for candidates through March 1, 2026.

After March 1, 2026, you will need to pass the Code Enforcement Technician examination to obtain the Code Enforcement Technician Certification (CE-T).

Example 1:

Candidate 1 has an active Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification. If the candidate wants to obtain the CE-T Code Enforcement Technician certification through this transition process, they will have until March 1, 2026 to take and pass the Zoning Inspector certification exam.

Example 2:

Candidate 2 does not hold either the Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector or Zoning Inspector certifications. If they wants to obtain the CE-T Code Enforcement Technician certification through this transition process, they will have until March 1, 2026 to take and pass both the Zoning Inspector and Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector certification exams.

To obtain the new Code Enforcement Officer certification (CE-O), you must pass the Code Enforcement Officer examination.
