What should I bring to the test site?

Note for National Certification & National Contractor Exams:

Any copyrighted, bound book may be used at a test site.** Exam questions will only come from the listed approved references, and exam appeals may only be based on the listed approved references.

Search for the exam you plan to take in the Exam Catalog to get a list of approved references to bring to your exam.

**Please Note: Some exams are excluded from this rule and either require specific references or are closed-book examinations.

Identification:
You must have your government-issued photo identification ready to show the proctor (e.g. driver’s license, passport).
The identification must:
  • have the same legal first name and last name that matches your exam record
  • not be expired
  • have a signature
Here’s what you’re Allowed/Prohibited to have with you during your exam:
COMPUTER-BASED EXAMS:

The following items are Allowed:

  • Copyrighted, bound material
    • Please make sure the reference(s):
      • Are bound (either original bound book, three-ring binder, or stapled). Photocopies of copyrighted materials are not allowed.
      • Have notes written in ink or highlighted.
      • Have permanently attached tabs (tabs that can’t be removed without destroying the page).
  • Magnifying glass
  • Eyeglasses, if necessary
  • Architects’ scale or rule
  • Battery-operated calculator that is:
    • Nonprogrammable
    • Not capable of storing examination information
    • No ribbon or paper printing capabilities
  • Foreign language/English translation dictionaries, if needed

The following items are Prohibited:

  • Any kind of ink (ballpoint, felt-tip, gel, etc.) pens, colored pencils, highlighters, writing paper, or briefcases
  • Loose papers
  • Inserting non-copywritten material in bound, copyrighted material
  • Personal items such as purses, wallets, or watches—lockers are available at Pearson VUE for small items, but will not accommodate laptops, briefcases, or large purses or bags
  • Calculators with print capability and/or that store formulas
  • Copying, recording, or photo devices
  • Any electronic, electrical, or battery-operated device

PRONTO EXAMS:

The following items are Allowed:

  • Copyrighted, bound material
    • Please make sure the reference(s):
      • Are bound (either original bound book, three-ring binder, or stapled). Photocopies of copyrighted materials are not allowed.
      • Have notes written in ink or highlighted.
      • Have permanently attached tabs (tabs that can’t be removed without destroying the page).
  • Analog watch
  • Architects’ scale or ruler
  • Eyeglasses/reading glasses
  • Basic, four-function calculator (nonprogrammable)
  • Foreign language/English translation dictionaries, if needed

The following items are Prohibited:

  • Loose papers
  • Inserting non-copywritten material in bound, copyrighted material
  • Writing utensils
  • “Smart” watch (i.e., Apple or Galaxy watch)
  • Any electronic device other than your computer (i.e. any second monitor or screen)

For Laptop Users

If you are using a laptop to take the test, you will not be able to have an external monitor attached. This is also true if you are using a docking station.
