We have seen increasing interest from various stakeholder groups – most particularly the design community and development groups that are working in lower and middle income countries – for an updated performance-based code that will enable more innovation as well as reduce limitations related to referenced standards, non-metric measurements, and particular materials that may not be readily available or accessible outside the United States. We believe that an updated and more comprehensive performance-based code will be more readily adopted in jurisdictions around the world, including in the United States.
Why is the Code Council focusing attention and resources on a code that is rarely used?
